Strong digital infrastructure in the Philippines needed amidst pandemic, according to IDC.

The need to strengthen the digital infrastructure in the Philippines had got COVID-19 punch as Filipinos adopted to the new normal, said IDC.

This, as Angela Jenny Medez — Client Devices Market Analyst at IDC Philippines — said that reliable internet connectivity became “more critical” now that the country continued its battle against the coronavirus disease.

Internet connectivity, Medez noted, was considered as one of the main backbones as the country shifted to the new normal brought about by the ensuing lockdown.

Medez also said that the telecom industry played an important role in ensuring household sustainability and business continuity in times of crisis such as the COVID-19 pandemic as dependency for a reliable broadband connectivity became more critical.

PLDT and Globe Telecom had assured boosted telecommunications services in the Philippines, with massive investments targeted for their respective network buildups.

Data from IDC showed that more than 55% of Philippine enterprise would implement the “work-from-home” scheme through to June 2021.

Aside from the business side, the education sector had also embraced distance learning, driving further the demand for devices and internet connectivity.

Meanwhile, local telecommunications companies had restored the network services in Catanduanes along with other areas being hit by Typhoon “Rolly”.
