Cagayan Gov. Manuel Mamba: “We do not have Muslims here.”
Cagayan Governor Manuel Mamba was lambasted by the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) over his anti-Muslim remarks during a Senate hearing on Wednesday, November 25.
In the said hearing, the Cagayan governor mentioned that “We do not have Muslims here. Wala kaming problema as far as peace and order is concerned here.”
“I hope you could help us now because our province in Northern Luzon has a very big advantage now. We are not only saving our people and our livelihood, we are saving the chance to be connected to biggest economies in Asia,” he said.
“If we dredge the river, restore the Cagayan River to its old glory, I think Cagayan and the north will enjoy so much advantage as far as economic activities of Luzon is (sic) concerned,” he added.
Meanwhile, NCMF spokesperson Dr. Jun Alonto Datu-Ramos, demanded an apology from the Cagayan governor while condemning his remarks.
On the other hand, NCMF regional director for northern Luzon Atty. Raihana Sittie Sarah Macarimpas said that they “will not accept this kind of discrimination.”
Cagayan was among the worst-hit areas in the country due to massive flooding amid the onslaught of Typhoon Ulysses in the entire Luzon.
