DOH Considers 95% Recovery Rate For Coronavirus Cases

DOH was eyeing for a 95% recovery rate for coronavirus cases.

The Department of Health (DOH) said that the department was eyeing for a 95% recovery rate for coronavirus cases in the Philippines.

This, as the Department of Health maintained that the Philippines was doing well in terms of number of COVID-19 recoveries as it considered more number of patients recovered from coronavirus disease despite that the country ranked 20th on the list of countries with the most number of patients infected with COVID-19.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in an interview on PTV’s Laging Handa that what the Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center has done with the rankings was only to get the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases recorded by every country.

Latest data from the Department of Health as of October 3 showed the Philippines had recorded a total of 319,330 COVID-19 cases, of which 255,046 have recovered, 58,606 are active cases, and 5,678 have died due to coronavirus disease.

We want to target 95% recovery rate at the soonest possible time,” Vergeire said.

Vergeire also said that the current 80% recovery rate could increase as the Department of Health awaited complete data on the so-called “time-based tagging” — COVID-19 patients who had recovered but were not yet tagged as such by local government units or laboratories.

Also, Vergeire emphasized that the country had a very low case fatality rate — the number of deaths relative to the total number of patients infected with COVID-19.
