In a press conference prior to the oath-taking of Velasco as the new House Speaker, he told the latter that he will not let him burn the House down.

“I will not allow you to burn this House down. Remember that. I love this institution, 1998 nandito na ako. Marami na akong Goliath na kinalaban,” Cayetano said.

“So kung gagawin niyo, ipapasa budget, magkakampi tayo dito. Kung ang gagawin niyo papalitan lang ako, ‘di ako hahadlang, pero if you try to burn this House down, you’re in for one hell of a fight.” Cayetano added.

Cayetano, the representative of Taguig-Pateros, held a press conference while majority of the House members or 186 congressmen elect Lord Allan Velasco as the new House speaker.

But Cayetano and his allies claimed that the election was “fake” and “illegal.”

Meanwhile, under the gentlemen’s agreement brokered by President Rodrigo Duterte himself, Velasco should succeed Cayetano after the latter finished his first 15 months in the 18th Congress.

This means that Velasco will serve for the remaining 21 months as Speaker of the House.

  1. Power struggle to propel themselves in power, both have their own interests to protect and to further political ambitions geared towards personal aggrandizement… well, I’M PISSED OFF more with Cayetano.

  2. For God sake we don’t care whoever will be the Speaker of the House. Just do your work. Do what the Filipino people deserved to get from your service. Remember this, you are people’s servant and live from our taxes. Nakakahiya naman kung magbabangayan lang kayo na parang mga bata. There are a lot of things you need to prioritize. Alalahanin ninyo ang dami ng kapalpakan ang ginawa ng Lower House nitong nakaraan. Enough! Work for the people not for one person. Lead through your conscience.
