The question raised by the incumbent mayor was in relation to the white beach project of DENR in Manila Bay.

Many were shocked after a wide stretch of powdered white sand covered the baywalk of Manila Bay.

According to DENR Undersecretary Benny Antiporda, the restoration of Manila Bay aims to promote environmental awareness and cleanliness.

Meanwhile, Isko Moreno earlier aired a statement over the white sand on Manila Bay.

“So these lawmakers, I understand their feelings. But remember, they are part of the approval of the 2020 budget last year and it was presented to them one way or another,” he said according to Inquirer.net.

“Third, timeliness. Eh two years ago pa ito e. Hindi ito nasimulan nang isang linggo, isang buwan o nung January, this is two years ago, so it didn’t happen overnight. It’s just that your attention or some other individuals’ attention was called when it is white sand. But what if it is black sand?,” Isko Moreno added.

Three senators have asked the Department of Environment and Natural Resources to stop the white sand makeover on Manila Bay.

This was after the claims of the Department of Health (DOH) that dolomite dust- when inhaled, might result to respiratory illnesses.

However, DOH later cleared that it is not hazardous to health, in the bulk state.

It can be recalled that last week, DENR started putting “white sand” on Manila Bay which are actually dolomite boulders from Cebu that were crushed and brought to Manila.

The goal of DENR is to allow the beachgoers to feel the Boracay essence via a one-hectare walkable area in Manila Bay.
