Gilda Cordero Fernando, a renowned writer and publisher died on Thursday, August 27, at the age of 90.
Mol Fernando, her son, took to the social networking site, Facebook to share the news about the death of his mother.
“We will miss her dearly and love her always,” Mol Fernando wrote.
“Inimitably, Lola Mad held her own wake earlier thus, there will be no need for funeral services,” he added while posting a link to Gilda Cordero Fernando’s article in Philippine Daily Inquirer.
However, no further details were divulged about the death of the renowned writer-publisher.
Gilda Cordero Fernando, an award-winning writer, is popular for her short stories such as “The Butcher, The Baker and The Candlestick Maker”(1962) and “A Wilderness of Sweets” (1973).
According to ABS-CBN News, Gilda Cordero Fernando launched GCF Books which published titular books about Philippine cultural history in the year 1978.
Among the books she published at the time were “Streets of Manila” (1977), “Turn of the Century” (1978), “Philippine Ancestral Houses” (1980), “Being Filipino” (1981), “The History of the Burgis” (1987), “Folk Architecture” (1989), and “The Soul Book” (1991).
She received a Gawad CCP Para Sa Sining (Publikasyon at Panitikan) award from the Cultural Center of the Philippines in 1994.
