Jesse Robredo served as the secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) under President Benigno Aquino III from 2010 until his death in 2012.
He passed away on August 18, 2012, after his aircraft traveling across the Masbate shore crashed due to an engine failure.
He was survived by his wife, incumbent Vice President Leni Robredo, and three daughters.
Before his state funeral, he was conferred by then President Noynoy with the Philippine Legion of Honor with the rank of Chief Commander.
Following his death, August 18 has bee declared as the “Jesse Robredo Day”. Two roads were also named in his honor.
