DTI To Study On Setting Up SRP On Tablets, Laptops

The DTI will study on setting up a suggested retail price (SRP) on tablets and laptops.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will study on setting up a suggested retail price (SRP) on tablets and laptops due to high demand for these products.

This, as Trade Undersecretary Ruth Castelo told Teleradyo that DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez had been instructed to study how and if it’s necessary to put a “price ceiling” on tablets and laptops.

Castelo also said that the DTI was investigating whether there’s profiteering or hoarding which could be the reason for increasing prices, especially that online classes in some schools already began.

The DTI would also talk to distributors and importers if the price of these gadgets could be lowered.

In addition, Castelo said that they will make sure, on the part of the Department of Trade and Industry’s consumer protection, Secretary Lopez ordered them to monitor not only the price that they’ll continue to study but also the supply as well.

Moreover, Castelo advised consumers to carefully study the technical specifications of the tablet or laptop because many were available or can be purchased just right for their budget. Castelo also encouraged the public to bring those exploiters to DTI.
