Open Letter of Rep. Vilma Santos-Recto for Fellow Lawmakers on Decision-Making Over ABS-CBN Franchise
VILMA SANTOS – The representative of the 6th district of Batangas penned an open letter for her fellow lawmakers with regards to the ABS-CBN franchise.
The ABS-CBN has yet to renew its franchise or get a new one. The network is currently facing a lot of issues and hearings are still ongoing.
To note, it was in the first quarter of 2020, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, when its broadcasting operations went off-air. It is a response to the Cease and Desist Order released by the National Telecommucations Commission (NTC) against the network.
The NTC issued the said order due to the expired franchise of the network. Recently, the airing of some Kapamilya programs through the Kapamilya TV Plus and Sky Direct was also stopped.
Several celebrities most especially Kapamilya actors, actresses, and singers have spoken. The executives have also aired their personal sides on the issue. Most of them are asking the government to give ABS-CBN a chance.

Recently, Batangas 6th District Representative Vilma Santos-Recto penned an open letter to her fellow lawmakers. She is the author of the House Bill 4305 which seeks to give another franchise to ABS-CBN network.
The actress-turned-politician expressed her hope that her fellow lawmakers will uphold fair judgment on the issue. She stressed that the different agencies of the government already said that the network has no violation.
Furthermore, the Batangas Representative cited the statement of ABS-CBN President Carlo Katigbak saying that the company will continue to strive for betterment. According to her, around sixty years of service of the network should not be taken for granted.
Rep. Vilma Santos-Recto stated in her open letter on Instagram that she is one of those who believe that ABS-CBN deserves to be given another chance to continue its service to the Filipinos. She expressed her hope that the bill she proposed would pave the way for the ABS-CBN to be allowed to operate again.
