President Rodrigo Duterte Officially Declared July 31 As A Regular Holiday In Observance Of Eid’l Adha
President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday signed a proclamation declared July 31, 2020, as a regular holiday in the Philippines in observance of Eid’l Adha.
This, as the Malacañan Palace issued Proclamation No. 985 series of 2020 declaring July 31 as a regular holiday throughout the Philippines in observance of Eid’l Adha or a Feast of Sacrifice.
Citing Republic Act No. 9849, Eid’l Adha was one of the greatest feasts of Islam (the other was Eid’l Fitr) and was usually observed as a regular holiday.

Although community quarantine protocols were strictly implemented in the Philippines in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 or coronavirus disease, the Proclamation stated that the observance of Eid’l Adha was subjected to existing social distancing and community quarantine measures.
Eid’l Adha was an Islamic celebration in which Muslim honored Ibrahim’s willingness to obey Allah. It also commemorated the end of the Hajj — a pilgrimage to Mecca.
It was the responsibility of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) to inform the Palace on what date Eid’l Adha should fall as the Muslim community used Hijra, an Islamic calendar. In this case, the NCMF has recommended to declare July 31 a regular holiday in the Philippines.
