EndeavorRx, as per the report, required a prescription and was design for kids ages 8 to 12 with certain symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). It was the first time that the Food and Drug Administration in the United States had cleared a digital therapy for improving symptoms of ADHD and was the first time that the US FDA had authorized marketing of a “game-based therapy” for any condition.

According to the Food and Drug Administration, the FDA looked at data from multiple studies in over 600 kids, adding that a video of the game presented a character traveling a “racecourse-like path” in a hoverboard. Moreover, the Associated Press reported that sensory and motor tasks were designed in order to help the player improve his or her cognitive functioning.

Eddie Martucci, the chief executive of Akili Interactive Labs, said in a statement that the company was proud to make history with the decision of the US FDA, adding that the company was using technology in order to help treat a condition in an “entirely new way” as Akili Interactive Labs directly targeted neurological function via medicine that “feels like an entertainment”.
