Government officials will check the increase of coronavirus cases in Leyte province, according to DILG Secretary Eduardo Año.
DILG Secretary Eduardo Año said that government officials would also check the situation in Leyte province amidst the reported spike of confirmed cases of coronavirus disease in the said province.
This, as DILG Secretary Eduardo Año said in a radio interview on Wednesday that he and National Task Force on COVID-19 chief implementer Secretary Carlito Galvez will visit Tacloban City and check the situation in the said area.
Año said that only General Cimatu, the Secretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, will stay in Cebu City and he, together with Secretary Galvez, will fly to Tacloban just because the Leyte province was also having a problem.
He also said that there’s a sudden surge in the area because of arriving locally-stranded individuals and OFWs which caused the rapid increase of confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
With this, Año said that he wanted to talk to the local government officials in the said area and monitor the actual situation on the ground and what the national government can do in order to help Leyte province.
Earlier, 12 lawmakers from Region 8 had called for a review of the “Hatid Probinsiya” program by the government amidst the increasing number of confirmed cases of coronavirus disease in Eastern Visayas.
These lawmakers had called on the Department of Health (DOH) in order to reinforce its regional office in Region 8 to be “more effective” in containing the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 in Leyte and Samar provinces.
