DOH clears backlog, says no more ‘late’ cases will be reported starting June 1
The Department of Health (DOH) announced on Sunday that they have already cleared the backlogs and will no longer give “late” reported cases of coronavirus disease or COVID-19 starting Monday, June 1, 2020.
In a statement, the country’s health department said that all case validation backlogs from one facility that submitted a partial line list and 27 laboratories that submitted complete line lists have already been cleared.
Based on the report of GMA News, there are 42 COVID-19 testing centers licensed to operate in the country.
“The surge of ‘late’ cases is attributed to the [DOH Epidemiology Bureau’s] aggressive validation of recently-submitted line lists. Each line list contains all test results conducted since the beginning of the laboratory’s operation. The validation process eliminates possible duplication… while also ensuring that all test results have been transmitted to DOH,” says the Department of Health.
“Starting June 1, no more late cases will be reported until the remaining operational laboratories submit their complete line lists,” Duque noted
“These line lists are necessary for the government to provide accurate and timely information not only to our policymakers, but also to the public,” Duque stressed.
Earlier, the DOH said that it would classify the newly reported cases of COVID-19 into two: “late” and “fresh” cases.
“Late” cases are COVID-19 results released four days ago or more while “Fresh” cases are results released approximately 3 days from the time it is being reported.
However, the revised reporting on the new cases drawn confusion towards the public including Vice President Leni Robredo who question the logic behind the new reporting scheme.
Meanwhile, in the latest tally released by the Department of Health, the country has already recorded 18,086 COVID-19 cases, 957 deaths, and 3,909 recoveries.
