The clarification came after Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque previously announced that pedicabs, tricycles, and other vehicles with sidecars were allowed in national highways in order to cater to the commuters’ transportation needs due to lack of transport vehicles.

According to the Department of the Interior and Local Government, local government units were the ones regulating the operation of pedicabs and tricycles in secondary roads, adding that pedicab drivers and tricycle drivers must observe safety and health protocols when they run the streets.

Eduardo Año, the Secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government, said that the IATF-MEID or the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases already mandated a “one-passenger, no-back ride policies” on all areas under general community quarantine and modified general community quarantine.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government also reminded the local government units that all forms of transportation vehicles — including pedicabs and tricycles — should be disinfected regularly.
