South Korea Traces New COVID-19 Outbreak In Seoul Nightclubs

Health authorities in South Korea started investigating a new COVID-19 outbreak centered in Seoul nightclubs.

Health authorities in South Korea on Friday started investigating a new coronavirus outbreak centered in nightclubs in Seoul.

This, as Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) said that at least 15 people with coronavirus disease were linked to the nightclubs in Itaewon, as such, the health authorities were seeking to keep COVID-19 infections in check as South Korea implemented less-restrictive social distancing measures in the country.

Jeong Eun-kyeong, the director of Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said that crowded venues — including nightclubs — “have all the dangerous conditions” that the health authorities were concerned about, adding that it was required to strengthen management for crowded venues. She also encouraged the public not to visit crowded venues as much as possible.

Officials in the city of Seoul said that there were more or less 1,500 people who visited the clubs, adding that the authorities advised those who entered the clubs to self-isolate for 14 days and be tested.

South Korea used its high-tech approach to contact tracing — by way of accessing the patient’s smartphone location data, CCTV footage, credit card statements, and other information needed — in order to beat the coronavirus outbreak.
