DSWD has this statement about SAP cash subsidy
SAP Cash Subsidy – The Department of Social Welfare and Development stated that families of distressed overseas Filipinos can also avail cash aid from the social amelioration program.
Due to the enhanced community quarantine, most people, especially informal workers, have no means to work for their financial needs. In line with this, the government, through DSWD distributed cash assistance to the poor families.
In a previous report, the Department of the Local and Interior Government (DILG) stated that those who as not included in the first SAP distribution will receive in the second distribution.
Groups that advocating the welfare of senior citizens also plead to the government to include the elderly population to the SAP even though they already have their pensions.
Based on a recent report from Manila Bulletin, SAP cash subsidy is also available for the families of distressed overseas Filipinos (OFs). “Families with Overseas Filipinos (OF) who have no other source of income since January, 2020, until the lifting of the community quarantine will qualify under the SAP,” DSWD said in a statement.
OFs are advised to get in touch with their local government units for the assessment. Through this, the barangay can validate and verify the ‘no work, no pay’ status of the Filipinos working abroad.
“Availment of other agency programs, such as the Provision of Financial Assistance for Displaced Land-based and Sea-based Filipino workers due to COVID-19 of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) for OFWs should also be considered in the qualification of OFs as SAP beneficiaries to avoid duplication of assistance as prescribed in the guidelines,” the statement also said.
OFs are considered one of the most vulnerable sectors amid the enhanced community quarantine. Based on the report, the DSWD is closely coordinating with the DILG as well as the LGUs in order to bring the cash assistance to those who really need it amid the crisis.
