COVID-19 SAP should also be given to Senior Citizens
The National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC), Senior Citizens Sector, and the Coalition of Services for the Elderly Inc. (COSE) are advocating that senior citizens should be included in the COVID-19 social amelioration program (SAP).
Amid the health crisis in the Philippines, the government, through the Department of Social Welfare and Development distributed cash assistance to the affected individuals and families.
However, NAPC and COSE lament that due to different interpretation of the said cash aid program of the government, elderly people are being excluded.
Based on the report from One News, the reason for this is that they are already accepting pensions and stipends pursuant to other law.
COSE executive director Emily Beridico said in an interview that their organization is pushing through the “universality” in the approach of the government when it comes to the distribution of cash aid for seasoned citizens in the Philippines.
Beridico added that based on the reports elderly individuals who were deprived of cash assistance mostly came from the National Capital Region, Negros Occidental, and Bukidnon.
“Interpretation nila… may pension, maliit man o malaki, excluded,” she said. Reportedly, they were excluded because they are already receiving pensions from the Social Security System (SSS) or the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS).
The COSE executive director stated that based on the record, 24.1 percent of these elderly individuals receive pensions from GSIS less than P5,000.
“We reiterate that targeting poor senior citizens is overrated in normal times and doing so again doesn’t make much sense during a pandemic where virtually every older woman and man is affected and vulnerable,” the group stated.
They are also asking for clear guidelines that will guarantee protection for senior citizens, based on the report.

Yes po lalo na po sa mga senior.citizen na mga 80.and.90.years old.na walang.inaasahan marami.po silang pangangailangan sa buhay.milk.medicine healthy.foods pampers etc nagtitiis lang po sila kung.anong.meron.sila nanay ko po 93 years old

Si nanay 90 years old ako lang inaasahan sa bahay yung sinsabi nilang pension na 500 quarterely na inaasahan nila nuon pambili manlang ng gamot hininto pa nila early 2019 pa dina pinush 2020 na now. Dko naman kaya iprovide lahat ng pangangilangang maontenace at chek up nya tapos ganito oa situation lockdown. Sabihin pa sa dswd di sya qualified sa SAP na yan ano nalang po ang pwede namin asahan na mas need ng mga senior na tulad nila kung idisqualified pa sila.

IN THE SAID 18 MILLION FAMILIES TO SHARE FROM THE BILLIONS OF PESOS, THAT ALREADY REPRESENTS 85% OF THE TOTAL FAMILIES, WHICH MEANS 85 OUT OF 100 FAMILIES SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECEIVED THE AMELIORATION. BUT WHY IN OUR AREA, THERE HAS NEVER BEEN 15% FAMILIES WHO WAS ABLE TO AVAIL OF SUCH?
BECAUSE OF THIS, I COULD SAY THAT THE FUNDS HAVE AGAIN TURNED OUT AN OBJECT OF CORRUPTION, JUST LIKE DURING NORMAL SITUATIONS AND EVEN BECAME WORST NOW AS THERE WAS NO PROPER CONTROL AND SYSTEM OF DISTRIBUTION. I suggest that a field audit should be conducted once this crisis ends up.

Why exclude the seniors just bcoz they receive pension which is not even enough for their maintenance medicines. The pension is also our money saved thru SSS or GSIS. We seniors contrinuted almost 1/3 of our salaries to the national treasury. Now that we are unemployed and needed help we cannot get anything? Why should we be disqualified because we have children who are working? They lose income.because of the lockdown at may sarili rin silang pamilya na need pakainin. AYAW NAMING MGA SENIOR MAGING PABIGAT SA AMING MGA ANAK.

This is sad because not all senior citizens has the priviledge to receive pensions.. i am from Burgos, Isabela and best examples are my very own parents, aunty and uncle.
dapat po kht may pension ang isang senior citizen , ay bibigyan din ng tulong ng DSWD or LGU kc mga seniors ay bumili ng.mga gamot, maintenance.,mgs gamot like sa diabetis ay mahal din hindi lng nmn iisa ang maintenance ng isang senior citizen.marami na kc mga sakit ang mga mattanda na kaya dapat din sana bigyan ng tulong ng gobierno natim.

Ang pension ng senior citizens ay binayaran nila sa loob ng mahabang panahon pagtratrabaho nila. Saving nila yon at hindi dapat sabihin ng kung sino man nagdudurung durungan may tinatangap naman sila. Hindi galing sa gobyerno. pera nila yon. Walang tulong ang gobyerno duon. Iniipit pa nga ng SSS yon isang libong balansing dagdag sa pension nila dalawang libo na permado na ng congreso at presidente nuon pang 2017. Sana bigyan naman ng gobyerno ng pansin ang mga senior citizens na naging parte din ng pag-unlad ng bayan natin nuon nahtratrabaho pa sila.
Pension? Kulang pa nga ang pension sa laki ng gastos sa gamot at mga pangangailangan namin. Saka gaano lang ang pension na iyon. Ayaw naman naming umasa lang sa mga anak namin gawa ng may mga sarili na din silang pamilya. Nahinto pa kami sa aming trabaho gaya ko na sa pamamasada ng tricicle nalang umaasa. Binawalan pang mamasada. Dapat lang bigyan ang lahat ng senior citizen

I want to adk me 62 years old and my husband 64 years old both retired OFW we dont received pension yet i want to know if we are included in SAP.
I am a senior citizen ..My husband was not included in the list of sap beneficiaries . We have no income as of now because of the quarantine..we only depend on our daily income as vendors..I am appealing to be given cash assistance for our food and paymnts of water and electricity bills..
