Over 500 Residents In Navotas City Returned Cash Aid Under SAP

Over 500 residents in Navotas City waived a total of PHP 4.6 million worth of emergency subsidy under the DSWD’s Social Amelioration Program.

This, as the City Social Welfare and Development Office reported that 551 residents in Navotas City returned their social amelioration cards (SAC), while 24 residents waved the PHP 8,000 cash.

According to Navotas City Mayor Toby Tiangco, the city government was grateful to their residents who had been honest and to those who decided to return their emergency subsidy in order to help other residents in need, adding that the city government requested for DSWD’s permission to replace 575 residents who returned their emergency subsidy in order for the low-income families to have an opportunity to received cash assistance under the said program.

Navotas City Mayor Toby Tiangco also restated that those who belong to the following must return their SAP forms or cash to their barangay:

  • those who are members of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps)
  • those who are members of the Displaced Workers Program
  • those who received a subsidy for public utility drivers
  • those who worked in the government sector (except for barangay tanod, healthcare workers and daycare workers)
  • those who received their pensions
  • those who do not have dependents

As per the report, Navotas City reported 31 confirmed COVID-19 cases as of May 1, 2020, adding that five coronavirus deaths were also reported in the city.

The Department of Health reported 284 new cases of COVID-19 as of 4:00 p.m. of May 1, with 41 new recoveries and 11 new coronavirus deaths.

President Rodrigo Duterte previously approved the extension of enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in Metro Manila and other high-risk areas until May 15, 2020 in order to contain the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19 in the Philippines.
