US President Donald Trump officially signed an executive order that aimed to target social media.
United States President Donald Trump officially signed an executive order on Thursday (US time) seeking to deprive social media companies of legal immunity for content on their respective platforms.
This, as Donald Trump signed an executive order as a “legally dubious act” of political revenge, as such, the said executive order called on government regulators to assess if social media platforms — including Twitter — should be eligible for “liability protection” for content posted by its millions of users.
Donald Trump told reporters at the White House that he acted because tech giants — such as Facebook and Twitter — have had “unchecked power” to censor, edit, restrict, shape, hide, or alter any form of communication between large public audiences or private citizens, as such, the government “can’t let this continue to happen”.
The said move came after US President Donald Trump previously warned to “strongly regulate” or close social media platforms down after Twitter labeled his “misleading” claims about mail-in voting as well as his “baseless” implications that a host of a cable TV news had a hand in an aide’s death.
In his recent tweet, Donald Trump said that mail-in voting would lead to “massive fraud and abuse”, adding that it would also lead to the end of Republican party.
MAIL-IN VOTING WILL LEAD TO MASSIVE FRAUD AND ABUSE. IT WILL ALSO LEAD TO THE END OF OUR GREAT REPUBLICAN PARTY. WE CAN NEVER LET THIS TRAGEDY BEFALL OUR NATION. BIG MAIL-IN VICTORY IN TEXAS COURT TODAY. CONGRATS!!!
