Donald Trump Extends Huawei Ban Until May 2021

US President Donald Trump Extended The Ban On Huawei Technologies Until May 2021.

The United States President Donald Trump announced that the ban on Huawei Technologies has been extended until May 2021.

This means that Huawei cannot use Google applications and services — including Google Play Store — in its new and upcoming smartphones. The extension came as Donald Trump previously put Huawei on the Entity List last year via executive order citing a national security risk.

By adding Huawei to the Entity List means the company was banned from doing business with any of the US-based companies — including Google — without explicit permission.

Even though Huawei was banned from doing business with any of the US-based companies, the US Commerce Department issued temporary licenses that would allow the companies in the United States to continue doing business to Huawei — and those licenses were about to expire on May 15, 2020. Neither Huawei nor the US Commerce Department had indicated yet whether another extension of the said licenses would be granted.

Following the said ban, Huawei made an alternative to Google Play Store — the Huawei AppGallery — which was already available on its latest smartphones.

Also, the company has developed its own Huawei Mobile Services as an alternative to Google Mobile Services. Aside from this, Huawei previously launched its latest devices — including the company’s flagship smartphones — without the support of Google Mobile Services.

As per the report, Huawei was working on reducing its reliance on its third-party suppliers.
