Netizens Praise Ormoc Mayor Richard Gomez Over Response to COVID-19 Crisis
RICHARD GOMEZ – The Ormoc City Mayor gained praises from the netizens over his response to COVID-19 crisis.
Currently, the local government units’ help is greatly needed by their respective constituents. It is amid the coronavirus or COVID-19 crisis in the Philippines.
Luzon and most parts of Visayas and Mindanao are under an Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) now, a move necessary to contain the spread of the disease which has already claimed thousands of lives worldwide.
On the other side, a lot of people lost their income amid the ECQ. Among the most affected are those who are working on a no-work-no-pay basis. Several companies temporarily suspended operations amid the fight against the spread of coronavirus.
Mayors got different ways of helping their constituents amid the COVID-19 crisis. In Ormoc, Mayor Richard Gomez did not consider packing of relief goods for the people.
Based on a viral post, Goma decided to give one (1) sack of rice to every household in Ormoc. According to him, repacking the goods will take time. They were able to distribute the food assistance in just four (4) days.
When asked how he was able to identify the households that must be given a sack of rice, the Ormoc City Mayor responded that all households were given. He stressed that there are 67,000 residents and listing will take time as well.
Based on the viral post, Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez revealed that the fund for the food assistance to the people were taken from the calamity fund, general fund, and 30% of the development fund. According to him, if the ECQ will be extended, another one (1) sack of rice will be given to every household to prevent the people from going out.
