Valenzuela City recorded its first confirmed case of coronavirus disease or COVID-19.

Valenzuela City recorded its first confirmed case of coronavirus disease or COVID-19. This was announced by the city mayor on Thursday.

This, as the said victim was a 34-year-old female patient who went for a consultation at a private hospital in Manila after experiencing fever and sore throat.

In a statement posted on social media, Mayor Rex Gatchalian said that the patient has no travel history, but has exposure to someone who traveled to Malaysia. He added that the said patient, who had flu-like symptoms, was currently under strict home quarantine.

Gatchalian added that the Valenzuela City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit started its contact tracing and were monitoring the patient’s close contacts.

It was not clear if the said patient was among the 202 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Philippines, including 17 fatalities and 7 recoveries.

The entire Luzon was currently under an enhanced community quarantine. President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has already declared a state of calamity in the whole Philippines.
