According to Payton, he was feeling tired but resting home after going into self-quarantine, adding that he was “fortunate to be in the minority, without the serious side effects that some have.”

He also said that he began feeling unwell on Sunday and got tested the next day, without saying where or how he was able to get access to testing. Thus, it took three days for the results to arrive — and it was “positive”.

National Football League (NFL) Commissioner Roger Goodell said that it came as no shock that cases of the coronavirus disease were turning up in their league, adding that the league’s primary concern was for Payton’s health and well-being for Payton “did the right thing by seeking medical attention and we wish him a speedy recovery.”
