The US Regulators warned these companies to stop selling fake COVID-19 products.
Regulators in the United States warned seven (7) companies to stop selling products with false claims that they can treat COVID-19.
This, as the warnings were sent to companies based in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom via email and were officially announced by the Food and Drug Administration and Federal Trade Commission. The letters, which were being sent jointly by the FDA and the FTC, warned seven companies that their products were “unapproved drugs that pose significant risks to patient health and violate federal law.”
There were no approved treatments for the 2019 novel coronavirus or COVID-19 as of this writing, yet potential treatments and vaccines that were currently in testing won’t be ready for many months or more than a year.
FDA and FTC sent warning letters to these companies:
- Vital Silver
- Herbal Amy LLC
- N-Ergetics
- GuruNanda, LLC
- Vivify Holistic Clinic
- Quinessence Aromatherapy Ltd.
- The Jim Bakker Show
As of this writing, four of seven companies responded to a warning letter that was sent by the FDA and FTC.
Proprietor Amy Weidner wrote in an email that Herbal Amy was only selling herbs and not selling treatments, adding that the said quote has been removed to adhere to the FDA requirements. GuruNanda and N-Energetics also issued their statements, saying that they had removed the claims cited by the FDA.
Jennifer Hickman, identifying herself as the business owner of Vital Silver, wrote in an email that she was unaware that her company was violating FDA standards and had removed all statements concerning the 2019 novel coronavirus or COVID-19 from the website and social media.
Also, the Food and Drug Administration said that the FDA was working with online marketplaces, including Amazon, and had gotten them to remove more than three dozen fake COVID-19 products.
