The Philippines partially lifted its deployment ban of workers to Kuwait, according to Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello on Thursday.
This, after Kuwait and the Philippines had an agreement of a template contract for Filipino workers. Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello said that household workers were still covered by the ban, while the new and returning skilled Filipino workers were already allowed to fly to the Gulf state.
He also said that the proposed harmonized contact of employment would serve as “a measure that would provide effective and sufficient protection to our overseas workers.”
Previously, the Philippines imposed a deployment ban to Kuwait following the killing of Jeanelyn Villavende, a household worker who was found to have been abused by her employer. Bello added that Villavende’s employers have already been detained, while the agency who was responsible for sending her to Kuwait has been suspended.
