‘Colorum’ Motor Taxi Riders To Be Apprehended, Says DOTr

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Friday said that motorcycle taxi drivers who don’t belong to three platforms in the trial run will be apprehended.

This, as the DOTr said in a statement that Angkas, JoyRide, and MoveIt were the only participants in the motor taxi pilot that will run until March 2020. Also, the transport department said that groups such as Sampa and i-Sabay were “not accredited” and their riders will be apprehended.

According to Antonio Gardiola Jr., a member of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) who presided the pilot run. He added that the department “will not have second thoughts to penalize those who defy the authority.”

The Department of Transportation said that two motor-taxi drivers of Sampa and five motor-taxi drivers of Angkas who were not part of the group’s master list were recently caught, yet the nature of the penalties imposed to unaccredited motorcycle taxi drivers were not disclosed.

This, after an undercover passenger took a ride in order to check on the driver’s safety gear, only to find out that the driver was not included in the master list, according to the Department of Transportation.

Antonio Gardiola Jr. added that “mystery passengers” will be regularly deployed in order to verify the driver’s motorcycle documents and for safety checks.
