According to BleepingComputer, a UK-based security website, claimed that Travelex reportedly infected with Sodinokibi ransomware. The said ransomware copied more than 5GB of personal data, which includes credit and debit card information, birth dates, and Social Security numbers of Travelex customers.

After a malicious malware infected its network during New Year’s Eve, Travelex released a statement last January 2 (January 3 in the Philippines), following its IT issues that affect its services. Travelex said in a statement that their investigation “to date shows no indication that any personal or customer data has been compromised.”

Sodinokibi ransomware released its ransom note, claimed that they developed the “best data encryption and decryption system available today.” In addition, the Sodinokibi crew told BleepingComputer that they encrypted Travelex’s entire network and copied more than 5 gigabytes of personal data.

Pulse Secure, a VPN enterprise solution for secure communication used by Travelex, recently released a statement about the said ransomware that abused unpatched VPN servers. As of this writing, Pulse Secure said that the company was not validating any findings as it has “no firsthand evidence” about the said attack.
