NHCP gave warning to the public after the ‘Lupang Hinirang’ video of Bretman Rock resurfaced
The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) gave warning to the public regarding disrespectful act towards the Philippine National Anthem or ‘Lupang Hinirang’ after the video of internet sensation Bretman Rock resurfaced.
Netizens expressed fury when the said video of Bretman circulated once again on social media. Based on the report from ABS-CBN, the video wherein the social media star was singing the ‘Lupang Hiniran’ and “twerking” first surfaced three months ago.
A netizen shared this post on Twitter showing that Bretman already deleted the said video.
In line with this, NHCP released an official statement on Friday to give warning to the public against disrespecting the national anthem of the Philippines. Although the agency did not mention the name of Bretman Rock, it directly addressed the said issue as they received several complaints.
NHCP also reminded that people who violated the Flag Law should be penalized – P5,000 to P20,000 fine, or imprisonment of not more than one year. In addition, the agency stressed out that the national anthem should not be used for mere amusement and entertainment purposes, with a few exceptions.
With this reminder from NHCP, many assumed that it was intended to address the viral video of the social media influencer. Several netizens expressed various reactions to this issue. Here are some of the comments.
“Penalty for disrespect to the anthem should be more higher. This kind of disrespect cannot be tolerated. Imprisonment.” – FB user Neil Kenneth Flora
“Where is accountability NHCP? Notice is not enough, they need to face consequences. This is the reason why people are not taking it seriously because laws are not implemented properly.” – FB user Al Alanano
“Bretman Rock should, at the very least, be declared as persona non grata. Penalize!” – FB user Celina C. Bautista
