Theme Songwriter of ‘Friends’ Dies At 72

Allee Willis, the theme songwriter of the hit television show Friends, died at 72, as announced by her partner Prudence Fenton last Wednesday.

In an Instagram post, Prudence Fenton attached a photo of Allee Willis. She captioned it as “Rest In Boogie Wonderland Nov. 10, 1947 – December 24, 2019.

Allee Willis’ Instagram account also posted a screenshot of an article about her passing. The said post captioned as “We are extremely shocked and devastated to share this news.⁣

As reported by The New York Times, the theme songwriter died Tuesday due to a “cardiac event”.

Allee Willis was known for writing I’ll Be There For You, which was the theme song for the long-running show Friends, as well as writing several hits by Earth, Wind, and Fire. She was also inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame way back 2018.

Willis said that she was thankful that she has few songs “that will not go away”.
