Outgoing Senator Leila de Lima mourns the passing of her former staff who died at a shooting incident in the US
LEILA DE LIMA – The outgoing senator shared that the lawyer who died at a random shooting incident in the US is her former staff.
Atty. John Albert “Jal” Laylo died earlier due to the wounds he got from a shooting incident in Philadelphia, USA.
Laylo was on his way to the airport with his mother to catch their flight to Chicago when their car was fired with six bullets. His mother was slightly wounded by glass fragments.
Laylo, a lawyer by profession passed away at the age of 35.
According to outgoing Senator Leila de Lima, Laylo was her former legislative staff member for two years until he left to pursue a Master’s degree.
Aside from serving the office of De Lima, he also served the office of former Senator Manuel “Mar” Roxas II.
He was an associate partner at DB Law Partnership from 2015 to 2016 and a supervising legislative lawyer in the Senate from 2016 to 2018.
Laylo also worked as the legal and political consultant for the city government of Malabon from 2015 to 2016 and later worked as deputy campaign manager for the re-election bids of the Oretas in 2016.
During the 2022 general elections, the lawyer was appointed as the official counsel of outgoing Vice President Leni Robredo on the board of canvassers for Makati City.
The authorities are still conducting an investigation regarding the incident.
