PDP-Laban Reportedly Supports Former Sen. Bongbong Marcos for President
BONGBONG MARCOS – The camp of the former Senator released a statement on the reported endorsement of PDP-Laban of his candidacy for president.
The ruling party and the party of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, the PDP-Laban Cusi wing, has no presidential candidate in the upcoming May 2022 Elections. It also has no vice-presidential candidate under its banner.
Previously, PDP-Laban announced its support on the vice-presidential bid of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio. The presidential daughter is running under the national party Lakas-CMD.
Duterte-Carpio initially filed for re-election as Davao City Mayor but she withdrew her candidacy, joined Lakas-CMD, and replaced their vice-presidential candidate in the upcoming election. Her running-mate is former Senator Bongbong Marcos.
Marcos Jr. is running under Partido Federal ng Pilipinas. They tagged their tandem as UniTeam and several national political parties expressed their support to the Marcos-Duterte tandem.
However, previously, Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte tagged Marcos Jr. as “a very weak leader”. Despite the tirades, Mayor Sara remained hopeful that his father will endorse them as a tandem.
Recently, reports that Pres. Duterte’s party PDP-Laban is endorsing former Sen. Bongbong Marcos as the candidate for president that they will support in the upcoming election.
The camp of former Sen. Bongbong Marcos released a statement following the reported endorsement by PDP-Laban. The former Senator’s spokesman, Atty. Vic Rodriguez, said that they deeply appreciate the endorsement of PDP-Laban and take it as a good signal over their call for unity.
According to Marcos Jr.’s camp, the support from majority of the political parties is “truly assuring” but it also challenges them to be even more prepared. According to Rodriguez, they cannot be complacent as the forces that are allegedly pulling him down have not given up. He expressed their gratitude to PDP-Laban.
