Enchong Dee surrenders to authorities
Kapamilya actor Enchong Dee paid this amount for bail after he surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation due to the cyber libel case that DUMPER Rep. Claudine Bautista-Lim filed against him.
It can be recalled that Enchong’s tweet against the congresswoman’s “lavish wedding” in Balesin was the reason why the cyber libel complaint was filed. In his deleted tweet, the 33-year-old actor accused the party-list representative of using the money for drivers.
When the case against him pushed through, the prosecutors said that there was “malice” in his words unlike the social media posts of celebrities Agot Isidro, Pokwang, and Ogie Diaz that mainly expressed their feelings.
Because of this, he was facing the P1 billion cyber libel case against him. The congresswoman wanted the actor to pay moral damages amounting to P500,000,000 and exemplary damages amounting to P500,000,000.
Just recently, reports surfaced that warrant of arrest against him was filed but he was nowhere to be found. On the after of January 31, Monday, based on the report from politics.com.ph, the actor surrendered to authorities.
Later on, he posted bail and was not detained. Enchong Dee paid P48,000 for bail. “He posted bail and was released late evening after he was processed and his bail has been approved,’’ NBI National Capital Region Director Emeterio Dongallo confirmed.
Enchong, whose real name is Ernest Lorenzo Velasquez Dee, has remained silent about the cyber libel case against him. Although he has been posting updates on his social media accounts regarding his showbiz and personal engagements, he is not speaking about the legal issue that he is facing right now.
