Manila Mayor Isko Moreno on President Duterte’s withdrawal from the senatorial bid: “I respect his decision”
ISKO MORENO — Here’s what the presidential aspirant said after President Rodrigo Duterte withdrew his candidacy for senator in the 2022 elections.
On Wednesday, Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso said during his visit to Madge Café at La Paz Public Market in Iloilo that the public should respect the President’s decision to withdraw from the senatorial race.
“It’s surprising simply because the President already made known his intention to run for senator,” Moreno said. “But again, I respect his decision or anybody for that matter who will withdraw kasi choices rin naman nila ‘yan.”
Moreno had earlier said that he’s hoping for Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go to find peace following his withdrawal of his candidacy for president in the 2022 elections.

Moreno was joined in Iloilo by his running-mate, Dr. Willie Ong, and Aksyon Demokratiko senatorial candidates Carl Balita, Samira Gutoc, and Jopet Sison.
According to Moreno, there were programs and policies that they can work on together, especially the National Vaccination Program, which was delayed because of the typhoon.
“There are policies and programs na pwede naming mapagtulungan lalo na ‘yung National Vaccination Program na medyo naantala lamang dahil sa bagyo,” Moreno said. “But be it as it may, we will continue to support the President.”
Meanwhile, Cabinet Secretary and acting presidential spokesman Karlo Nograles said that the President’s decision to withdraw his candidacy for senator was a “personal decision.”
According to Nograles, the President will return to his private life and will spend his time with his family.
