Malacañang warned LGUs against lifting face shield policy.
MALACAÑANG PALACE — Malacañang recently warned the local government units (LGUs) against lifting the face shield policy.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque was asked about his thoughts on the use of face shields in the country.
“Ako po, personally, dahil galing po sa New York, nakita ko na wala naman pong face shield,” Roque said.
But Roque said that all LGUs were under the control and supervision of the President.
According to the Palace spokesman, the decision of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on the use of face shields was also the decision of the President.
“Ang desisyon po ngayon ay kailangan ipatupad muna ang mga face shields habang pinagaaralan po,” Roque said. “Kaunting pasensya lang po, kailangan sundin yung chain of command sa executive branch of the government.”

Roque’s statement came after Manila Mayor Isko Moreno signed Executive Order No. 42 wherein the use of faces shields was no longer mandatory in the City of Manila, except in hospitals, starting Monday.
It’s the first LGU in Metro Manila to scrap the IATF policy mandating the use of face shields in enclosed spaces in order to control the spread of COVID-19.
According to MMDA Chairman Benhur Abalos, they will forward their “official position” to the IATF, which will have the final say.
The Palace spokesman also said that it’s up to the DILG if sanctions will be given to Moreno regarding the lifting of the face shield requirement in the city.
