Here’s why PNP Chief Guillermo Eleazar won’t run in the upcoming polls
Philippine National Police (PNP) chief P/Gen. Guillermo Eleazar announced that he will not run in the 2022 elections.
Eleazar said his priority is to continuously improve the image of the police before he retires on Nov. 13.
“‘Yan ay tsismis lang at ugong-ugong lang pero wala po focus dun, sa akin lang ay ayaw ko ma-distract. So my remaining two months ay i-maximize ko lang talaga hanggang sa finish line,” he said.
“Marami ka naman paraan para makatulong. Itong remaining two months sana madagdagan pa ‘yung effort in winning hearts and minds of public,” he added.
Before he was appointed as PNP chief, he previously served as Deputy Chief for Administration of the Philippine National Police.
Meanwhile, among those who are considered top candidates in the presidential elections are incumbent Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, Senator-boxing champ Manny Pacquiao, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, Vice-President Leni Robredo, and former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
However, the aforementioned politicians are yet to confirm if they are running for the said position or not.
Senator Ping Lacson, on the other hand, has declared his candidacy for the presidential seat. He’s vying for the highest position in the country alongside his running-mate Senator Tito Sotto while President Rodrigo Duterte earlier announced a possibility he will run as vice president once his term ends.
The filing of certificates of candidacies will be from October 1 up to October 8, 2021, while the campaign period for nationally-elected positions will kick off on February 8, 2022, until May 7, 2022.
