Vice President Robredo reminded the national government that COVAX vaccine rollout rules applied to all COVID-19 vaccines.
Vice President Leni Robredo recently reminded the national government that COVAX vaccine rollout rules applied to all COVID-19 vaccines.
Robredo had reminded the national government to enforce the rules set by the WHO-led COVAX facility not only to Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine doses but also to other COVID-19 vaccine doses it donated as well.
The Vice President emphasized that the donated COVID-19 vaccine doses must first go to health workers (A1 category), senior citizens (A2 category), and indigent citizens (A5 category) under COVAX’s conditions.
Although Robredo didn’t mention them, persons with comorbidities (A3 category) in the national government’s vaccine priority list were also included in the rules set by COVAX.
“Eto talaga iyong intensyon nito. Hindi lang Pfizer, pero iyong lahat na galing sa COVAX facility. Ang intent talaga nito para doon sa mga mas pinakanangangailangan at para doon sa walang capacity na bumili ng bakuna on their own. So ito talaga kabahagi ito sa usapan, kaya ‘di ba iyong umpisa mga nakikita natin na may nagja-jump ng line, pinupuna natin,” Robredo said over dzXL.

Robredo’s statement came in reaction to President Rodrigo Duterte’s directive that the sought-after Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine doses from the COVAX facility will be given to the country’s indigent population.
The said order, however, will most likely apply to the next shipment of 2.2 million Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine doses, which the national government expected to arrive by end of this month.
Meanwhile, WHO Philippines Representative Dr. Rabindra Abeyasinghe said that the World Health Organization (WHO) encouraged the Philippine government anew to follow the prioritization list on who got the COVID-19 vaccine first as to maximize its impacts on the coronavirus pandemic.
