Apple officially launched new products and service updates during its “Spring Loaded” virtual launch event that happened Tuesday.
Here’s what Apple launched during the said event:
Service Updates
Apple started the event with an update on its Services products. For Apple Card, Apple officially announced a new “Apple Card Family” feature that enable users share the same Apple Card with other family members.
According to Apple, it created the said feature in order to “reinvent how spouses, partners, and the people you trust most share credit cards and build credit together”.
Apple also introduced its “Podcasts Subscriptions”, a new feature in Apple Podcasts that enable users to directly support podcasters through the Podcasts app. The new service, according to Apple, will be available starting in May.
iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini Purple Variant
Apple officially announced a new color variant for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini as purple will join the iPhone 12 lineup as the sixth color variant from which customers can choose.
This means that the iPhone 12 lineup was available in black, white, green, blue, (PRODUCT)RED, and purple.
Apple’s new purple variant for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini will be available for pre-order on Friday (US time), with the first orders shipping on April 30.
AirTags and Find My app
Apple finally introduced its AirTag item tracker, which had been rumored for more than two years at this point, as the company shifted its focus to the Find My app after announcing the purple variant for iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini.
AirTags can be attached to any item — to backpack, to wallet, to keys, or anything else — in order to track it using Apple’s Find My app.
Customers can buy a singular AirTag for USD 29 or a pack of four for USD 99. Pre-orders will start on Friday at 8 a.m. ET and the first orders will arrive on April 30.
Also, customers can personalize AirTags with engravings and emojis as well. Apple also had a range of different accessories to go with them.
Apple TV and Siri Remote
Apple officially announced a new version of the Apple TV 4K with an Apple A12 Bionic processor on the inside, giving it even more power compared to the competition. Also, there’s support for higher refresh rate content, though the full support for 120Hz refresh rates wasn’t there yet.
In addition, Apple introduced a new version of the Siri Remote as the new Siri Remote featured a silver design with a new click wheel at the top along with a power button for the first time. Also, there’s a back button that replaced the old menu button.
The new Apple TV, according to Apple, will be available to order starting April 30 for USD 179 (for 32GB storage) and USD 199 (for 64GB storage), adding that the first orders will ship in the second half of May 2021. Also, the new Siri Remote will be available on its own for USD 59.
Redesigned iMac and New Magic Keyboard
Apple officially introduced its first redesigned iMac in over a decade as the new iMac featured an all-new design with minimal bezels.
The new iMac featured a 24-inch display with True Tone display technology and was available in an array of new colors. Inside the redesigned iMac was an M1 chip, which was also what the public saw in last year’s MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and Mac mini.
The redesigned iMac has up to 7 color variants available: purple, pink, yellow, green, orange, silver, and blue.
Apple also introduced its redesigned Magic Keyboard and it comes in three variants: one without a Touch ID and a numpad, one with a Touch ID but without numpad, and one with both Touch ID and numpad.
Magic Mouse and Trackpad were also introduced during the launch event.
Customers will be able to pre-order the redesigned iMac starting on April 30, adding that the first orders will start shipping during the second half of May 2021.
