Vanessa Bryant was “absolutely devastated” after deputies shared crash site photos, according to her lawyer.
Vanessa Bryant, Kobe Bryant’s widow, was “absolutely devastated” by the report that the sheriff’s deputies posted graphic photos from the crash site.
This, as Gary C. Robb, Vanessa Bryant’s legal counsel, said in his lengthy statement at Vanessa’s Instagram account that Vanessa Bryant personally went to the office of Lost Hills Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department last January 26, requesting that the crash site “be designated a no-fly zone and protected from photographers.”
Vanessa’s request was “of critical importance” to her as she, according to Robb, desired to protect the dignity of all victims, including her late husband Kobe and her late daughter Gianna. At that time, Sheriff Alex Villanueva assured them that all measures would be put into place in order to protect the privacy of the victim’s families.
Robb added that it was their understanding that he has worked hard to honor those requests from Robb’s client. Vanessa’s attorney also said that sharing photos of the crash site was “an unspeakable violation” of human decency, respect, as well as the privacy right of the victims and their respective families, adding that Vanessa and her lawyers weer requesting a sheriff’s department internal investigation into the allegations.
A report from the Los Angeles Times said that it was unclear how many people may have seen those graphic photos or whether deputies had captured those images at the crash site or received them from someone.
Meanwhile, an entertainment news website, TMZ.com, reported that the allegations first surfaced after the complaint. Quoting unidentified law enforcement sources, TMZ stated that a trainee sheriff’s deputy at the crash site had taken photos using a smartphone and was subsequently overheard by a bartender showing graphic images to a customer in a bar.
TMZ.com also reported that the bartender then lodged a complaint.
