GUNNED DOWN – A pastor named Jet Tan was shot dead in a Tagapul-an, Samar, on Wednesday, March 17, 2021.
According to the Tagapul-an police, the religious leader was gunned down by an unidentified gunman.
He was walking around Barangay Labangbaybay at exactly 6:45 am when the incident took place.
In a statement via Rappler, Police Corporal Rey Grata said that the pastor was not involved in any conflic in the said town.
Authorities have already launched an investigation regarding his killing.
Jet Tan is the head pastor of the Forever Praise Evangelical Church in the Philippines.
He is also the chairman of the Conservative Baptist Association of the Philippines (CBAP) in Eastern Visayas.
Meanwhile, CBAP has issued a statement condemning the death of the religious leader.
“We, the Conservative Baptist Association of the Philippines, condemn the killing of innocent lives in the strongest terms. We call for justice for Pastor Jet Tan,” CBAP General Director Reynaldo Avante said.
It was in 2019 when a Protestant pastor named Ernesto Estrella was killed by unidentified gunmen in Antipas, Cotabato.
The Ecumenical Bishops Forum (EBF) issued a statement at the time condemning “the ideology of death which now prevails over the country and responsible for the threats, harassment and killing of church people.”
