Late Pinoy Actor Ramon Revilla Sr. to be Nominated as National Artist? House Panel Approves Resolution
The House panel approved the Resolution 1176 aiming to nominate the late actor Ramon Revilla Sr. for national artist.
Majority Leader Martin Romualdez together with 24 congressmen introduced the measure “expressing the sense of the House” to nominate Revilla Sr. as a national artist for his contribution to the movie industry.
Romualdez also cited the contribution of Revilla Sr. to the country’s entertainment industry for decades. Revilla worked as entertainment icon, actor, producer, writer, director, and a public servant.
Aside from the late actor’s contributions to the showbiz industry, he also received several awards such as Best Actor, Box Office King, and Lifetime Achievement Award from the Catholic Mass Media Awards.
“Through the years, he has contributed immensely in the development of Philippine art. His movies depicted not only Filipino way of life, but also our unique culture and strong ideals. His contributions to Philippine society in general and to Philippine entertainment in particular should not go unrecognized as he is a genuine gem who has contributed much to the proliferation and appreciation of the arts of our country,” the Resolution 1176 reads.
José Acuña Bautista Sr. has been also dubbed as “Hari ng Agimat” because of his iconic roles in the Philippine films. He passed away in June 2020 at the age of 93 after surviving a stroke in 2008.
