Bato, Catanduanes Expects “Gloomy Christmas”
The municipality of Bato, Catanduanes is now seeking help for the immediate restoration of electricity in the area as they expect a “Gloomy Christmas”.
The super typhoon Rolly causes damage and destruction to numerous properties in the affected areas including the town of Bato in Catanduanes. The powerful cyclone destroyed houses, unroofed evacuation centers, uprooted trees, and destroyed electrical posts.
On Friday (November 6, 2020), Bato, Catanduanes Mayor Juan Rodulfo reported that the electricity in the town is still town and it may take a few months to restore the power in the area. He is expecting a dark and gloomy Christmas due to the effects of the typhoon.
“Baka matagalan pa po ito, 2 to 3 months baka sumobra pa dyan dahil nagbagsakan lahat ng poste sa aming area. Madilim at malungkot po ang Pasko namin dito,” Rodulfo said.
Rodulfo said that Typhoon Rolly first made its first landfall in the town of Bato, which caused a massive destruction in the town. He also described Rolly as the strongest typhoon to hit the province.
Barangay Cagraray and Pananaogan are still isolated and yet to receive relief goods from the local government unit.
The city mayor also said that the city have P2.6 million budget left, which will be used for the distribution of relief goods.
