Agence France-Presse introduced its fact-checking program with TikTok
Agence France-Presse (AFP), an international news agency, on Thursday announced the launch of its new fact-checking program with TikTok.
This, as the said program was aimed to combat the spread of misinformation over TikTok – a short-form viral video app.
Under the said agreement, the fact-check teams at Agence France-Presse would verify potentially false and misleading videos that were being posted on TikTok in countries including Indonesia, the Philippines, Australia, Pakistan, and New Zealand.
The verification work would allow TikTok to counter the spread of misinformation by way of removing such content and notifying its users.
Phil Chetwynd, a global news director at Agence France-Presse, said that AFP was delighted to be leveraging their global fact-checking expertise for their project with TikTok.

In addition, Chetwynd said that the deal would also allow journalists at Agence France-Presse to “better cover and track misinformation trends” on both their wires and their specialist fact-checking site factcheck.AFP.com.
Arjun Narayan, the director of Trust and Safety at TikTok in Asia Pacific, said that at TikTok, they actively worked in order to create a “safe and supportive” environment for their users.
Meanwhile, Facebook took down fake pages and accounts allegedly linked to the Philippine military and the Philippine police.
