ICC Medical Report of Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte Out Following Interim Release Bid Denial
RODRIGO DUTERTE – The International Criminal Court (ICC) medical panel found the former Philippine President fit to stand trial contrary to his lawyer’s previous claim.
The lawyer former Pres. Duterte, Nicholas Kaufman, previously claimed that the former President is allegedly unfit to stand trial. The claim of the British-Israeli Lawyer urged the foreign court to postpone the confirmation of charges hearing on the case against the former President.
The ICC ordered former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte to undergo the checking of three (3) medical experts to assess his fitness to stand trial. It came after the suggestion of the prosecution team to have the former Chief Executive medically checked amid the claim of his lawyer.
The International Criminal Court ordered the checking of former Pres. Duterte by the following medical experts:
- an expert in forensic psychiatry
- an expert in neuropsychology
- an expert in geriatric and behavioral psychology with experience in “the examination of an elderly person on fitness to participate in judicial proceedings”
Last November 28, the ICC held a hearing over the interim release appeal of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte. The foreign court rejected Duterte’s appeal for his temporary release. It saddened not only the family of the former President but as well as his supporters across the nation and abroad.
Lawyer Nicholas Kaufman confirmed that they might appeal for the interim release of the former President again after his medical report will be released. Earlier this month, Kaufman confirmed that Duterte’s ICC medical report was released but the content was “confidential” then.
Recently, an update over the results of the ICC medical checkup of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte crossed the surface. Based on a report on PhilStar, the independent medical panel tapped by the foreign court ruled that Duterte is fit to stand trial.
The result of the ICC medical examination on former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte is contrary to the claim of his lawyer. Based on the report, the findings of the medical experts came with a unanimous decision. Based on the report, the report of the medical panel is still not publicly available as of this posting and the foreign court has yet to issue its ruling over the fitness of the former Chief Executive to stand trial.
Previously, after the ICC rejected his interim release plea, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte extended the message of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte to the Filipino people.
