Police Found Former DPWH Usec. Maria Catalina Cabral Found Unresponsive, Unconscious in Benguet
FORMER DPWH USEC. – Ex-Department of Public Works and Highways Undersecretary Maria Catalina Cabral was found dead due to an alleged fall from a cliff at Kennon Road in Tuba, Benguet.
The flood control mess left countless Filipinos disappointed and calling for accountability over the supposed multi-billion flood control corruption. The issue brought thousands of Filipinos in the streets to protest against corruption through the so-called “Trillion Peso March”.

Several official of the Department of Public Works and Highways were tagged in the flood control mess. Many of them including former DPWH Usec. Maria Catalina Cabral resigned from the position amid the supposed corruption issue. The DPWH is even set to conduct a massive recruitment.

Cabral had attended several investigations over the flood control mess. Several officials of the DPWH are currently facing charges over the supposed multi-billion flood control corruption issue. However, recently, countless Filipino people woke up to reports that Cabral was found dead.

The police found former DPWH Usec. Maria Catalina Cabral’s body 20 to 30 meters deep along the banks of the Bued River at Kennon Road in Tuba, Benguet. She was unconscious and unresponsive. According to her driver who was allegedly one of the last people who has seen her, he dropped her at the Maramal area at around 3:00 p.m.
The driver of the former DPWH Usec. claimed that he returned to the area at around 5:00 p.m. but he can no longer find Cabral there. He sought police assistance and her body was found at around 7:00 p.m. near the river. The initial reports of the police stated that she died due to an alleged fall.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the remains of former DPWH Usec. Maria Catalina Cabral was brought to a local funeral parlor. As of this writing, the family of the former Undersecretary has yet to issue a statement over her death.
It was in September when former Usec. Maria Catalina Cabral tendered her resignation letter to DPWH chief Vince Dizon. The Public Works Chief accepted her resignation two (2) days after. Recently, amid the flood control mess, DPWH Sec. Vince Dizon spoke on the reduced budget for the agency.
