The UP Issue, Staff Complaints, and a Sudden Ouster: Unpacking the Dominic Almelor Scandal
DOMINIC ALMELOR – The sudden removal of Dominic Almelor from his top position at PTV-4 has stirred intense discussions and raised questions about what truly led to his ouster.
Questions are being raised after former TV Patrol reporter Dominic Almelor was reportedly removed from his post as head of the news department and newscaster of PTV-4. The controversy stems from claims about his alleged behavior toward colleagues, sparking discussions online and within media circles.
Some former colleagues who worked with Almelor during his time in the ABS-CBN newsroom described him as intimidating. One former coworker casually remarked, “Wala naman akong personal encounter pero nakwento ng mga naging desk, terror daw siya noon,” noting that his reputation as a difficult superior had circulated among staff.

Interest in the issue grew after TV host and broadcaster Ramon Tulfo posted about Almelor on his Facebook page. In his post, Tulfo wrote, “Dahil sa kanyang kayabangan, sinipa sa puwesto si Dominic Almelor bilang head ng news department at newscaster ng PTV-4.” He added that Almelor, a former ABS-CBN reporter, was known for being “maangas… sa mga taong nakakababa sa kanya.”
Tulfo further narrated that Almelor would frequently ask coworkers where they graduated from, allegedly asserting superiority due to his University of the Philippines (UP) background. According to Tulfo, Almelor often said, “Taga U.P. ako. Taga U.P. ka ba?” when dealing with colleagues who questioned him.
Tulfo continued, “Oo nga’t nagtapos ka nga sa U.P. pero kelangan mo pa bang ipangalandakan?” emphasizing that academic credentials should not be used to belittle others. He also described Almelor as a person with high intelligence but lacking emotional maturity, stating, “Almelor is an example of a person with high IQ but low on EQ… EQ trumps IQ anytime. Another word for EQ is PR or public relations.”

The post received extensive reactions, with many netizens sharing strong opinions. One commenter, Wolf Alpha, criticized the alleged arrogance linked to academic elitism, saying, “Kung taga UP ka bakit alila ka lang ng mga negosyanteng may-ari ng Media?… ‘di hamak na marangal kaysa sayo ‘yung nagtitinda ng Fishball kasi walang amo ‘yun.”
Some UP graduates also expressed sentiments online stating they were not proud of certain alumni, citing unfavorable behavior that reflects poorly on the institution.
The issue continues to generate debate, with many waiting for Almelor’s side of the story.
