Alice Guo Begins Harrowing Life Sentence at Mandaluyong Women’s Prison

Inside Alice Guo’s Transfer: What Awaits Her in Mandaluyong’s Maximum Security Facility

ALICE GUO – Former Bamban Mayor Alice Guo is officially entering the next chapter of her legal downfall as she begins her life sentence at the Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong.

Former Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo is poised to begin serving her life sentence at the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City, following a recent order from the Pasig City Regional Trial Court Branch 167. The court, in its directive dated November 27, confirmed the commitment of Guo along with her co-accused, Jaimielyn Santos Cruz—the alleged president of Zun Yuan Technology Inc. (ZYTI)—and Rachelle Joan Malonzo Carreon.

The ruling stemmed from the trio’s conviction for qualified trafficking in persons, a charge linked to their involvement in illicit activities tied to a Philippine offshore gaming operator (POGO) hub in Bamban. The case, which sparked national attention, highlighted the growing concern over POGO-related crimes and the implications for local government officials allegedly complicit in such operations.

In a statement released on November 21, Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director Gregorio Catapang Jr. emphasised that “security measures are being enhanced” at the CIW in preparation for Guo’s arrival. He assured the public that protocols are in place to maintain order and ensure the safety of all persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) within the facility.

Before officially entering the women’s prison, Guo will undergo standard procedures at the BuCor’s Reception and Diagnostic Center (RDC). According to the bureau, the initial steps include verifying her documents and carefully inspecting her personal belongings. This standard process ensures compliance with institutional regulations and confirms the authenticity of court-issued orders.

Guo will then enter a mandatory five-day quarantine period, during which she will undergo a comprehensive medical evaluation. After quarantine, she will be transferred to the RDC’s regular dormitory to complete the 60-day intake process, which involves orientation seminars, psychological and medical diagnostics, and assessments that determine her appropriate security classification.

Once the two-month evaluation at the RDC is completed, Guo will be relocated to the dormitory designated for persons sentenced to life imprisonment within the Maximum Security Camp. This final transfer marks the start of her long-term confinement, where she is expected to serve her sentence in accordance with Philippine penal regulations.
