Sen. Imee Marcos Speaks on Upcoming Resumption of Senate Flood Control Hearing

IMEE MARCOS – The presidential sister and Senator claimed that former House Speaker Martin Romualdez allegedly backed off from being a state witness in the flood control issue.

Presidential cousin and Leyte Congressman Martin Romualdez is one of the congressmen who are accused of allegedly receiving kickback from the flood control projects. Controversial contractors Curlee and Sarah Discaya were the first to claim that Romualdez is supposedly involved in the alleged flood control corruption.

Cong. Martin Romualdez resigned from being the House speaker amid the accusation of allegedly receiving kickback from the flood control deals of the government. According to the former House Speaker, he wants the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) to be able to freely and fully exercise their mandate to investigate.

The ICI is a three-member body formed to investigate the flood control issue in the Philippines. It is led by former Supreme Court Justice Andres Reyes Jr. It was Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. who ordered for the creation of the commission to probe the issue.

Marcos Jr. previously claimed that not even Romualdez nor his own allies in politics will be spared from the flood control probe. The President also ordered the concerned agencies to ensure that the evidence against the flood control culprits are strong to ensure conviction.

While the House of Representatives stopped its flood control probe following the creation of the ICI, the Senate continues its investigation and it is set to resume its flood control hearing on Friday, November 14. Senate President Pro Tempore Ping Lacson who leads the Blue Ribbon Committee which handles the probe said that they will invite Zaldy Co to attend the flood control hearing via Zoom.

Lacson also claimed that 17 congressmen including former House Speaker Martin Romualdez will be invited to the flood control hearing. However, recently, presidential sister and Sen. Imee Marcos claimed that Romualdez will allegedly not attend the hearing.

Based on a post of ABS-CBN News on social media, Sen. Imee Marcos claimed that former House Speaker Martin Romualdez will allegedly not attend the Senate flood control hearing on Friday. According to her, he was supposedly the “VIP witness” at the upcoming hearing.

Furthermore, based on the post, Sen. Imee Marcos also claimed that former House Speaker Martin Romualdez allegedly backed off from being a state witness to the flood control issue. According to the presidential Sister, witnesses to the flood control issue including Orly Guteza will allegedly recant their claims.

Orly Guteza, a former marine, was a “surprise witness” presented by Sen. Rodante Marcoleta during a previous Senate flood control probe. He claimed that he was allegedly part of the team that delivered suitcases filled with millions of money to the residences of Romualdez and Co. However, Sen. Ping Lacson previously claimed that Sen. Marcoleta’s “surprise witness” could allegedly not be found.
