After the Backlash: Ferdinand Dela Merced’s Public Apology Leaves Netizens Divided
FERDINAND DELA MERCED – Following intense criticism over his previous remarks about Negros Oriental, Ferdinand Dela Merced issued a public apology that quickly reignited social media discussions.
Ferdinand Dela Merced once again became the center of online discussions after releasing a social media post that contained his public apology. The post came following the backlash he faced over his previous remarks about Negros Oriental, which angered many locals and netizens.
In his post, Dela Merced explained the emotions he felt after someone called him, “Andito na ang Philippines Blooper, ang palamunin ng Pinas.” He said he was deeply hurt by the comment, which led him to decide not to continue his journey in Negros Oriental.

He further stated:
“Hindi ako nagsasakripisyo para sa bayan para kamuhian. Yung bagyo, magbagyo naman talaga — wala naman problema doon kasi taon-taon naman talaga.”
According to Dela Merced, his intention was never to offend anyone but to express the pain and frustration he felt from the harsh words thrown at him. However, his explanation did not sit well with everyone. Some social media users questioned the sincerity of his apology, saying that it sounded more like an emotional outburst than a genuine attempt to take responsibility.
Others pointed out that the post focused more on his personal experiences and feelings rather than addressing the issues that angered the public in the first place. “It’s more of storytelling than an apology,” commented one netizen, echoing the sentiments of many others who felt that his statement lacked accountability.

Despite the criticism, a few supporters came to Dela Merced’s defense, saying that he was misunderstood and that people should give him a chance to explain his side.
As of now, the controversy surrounding Dela Merced’s “Walk Towards Guinness World Records” continues to unfold, with many still divided on whether his apology was enough to mend the damage caused by his earlier statements.
