Bongbong Marcos, Sara Duterte’s SALN Requested for Release by Akbayan Party-list

Akbayan Requests Ombudsman To Release Pres. Bongbong Marcos, Sara Duterte, Former Ombudsman Samuel Martires’ SALN

BONGBONG MARCOS, SARA DUTERTE’S SALN – The Akbayan Party-list requested for the release of the Statements of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth of the President and the Vice President among others.

All 24 senators released copies of their SALN after Ombudsman Boying Remulla called on the lawmakers to voluntarily publicize a copy of the record of their assets, liabilities, and net worth to the public. It came after the country’s chief graft-buster’s office released a memorandum that lifted the restrictions on the public access to the SALN of the officials that are within its repository.

The Ombudsman is the repository of the SALN of the president, the vice president, the local government officials, and the officials of the constitutional commissions. Under the tenure of former Ombudsman Samuel Martires who retired in July, the consent of the SALN owner is needed. The memorandum of Ombudsman Boying Remulla lifted the consent requirement.

After lifting the restrictions on the access to the SALN of the officials that are within the repository of the Office of the Ombudsman, Remulla asked the lawmakers to voluntarily disclose their SALN to the public amid the massive corruption issue in the government. Amid the senators releasing their SALN to the public, the House of Representatives previously said that they are ready to make rules for the release of the records of the assets, liabilities, and net worth of the House members.

Meanwhile, House Speaker Bojie Dy released his SALN that showed that he declared a net worth of P74 million. Here are the personal properties declared by the Chief of the House of Representatives:

Recently, a few weeks after Ombudsman Boying Remulla lifted the restrictions on the public access to the SALNs that are within its repository, Akbayan party-list submitted a request to Remulla’s office for the release of the SALNs of Pres. Bongbong Marcos, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, the constitutional commission officials, and former Ombudsman Samuel Martires.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Akbayan party-list President Rafaela David said that the request for the releasing of the SALN of Pres. Bongbong Marcos, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, and former Ombudsman Samuel Martires among others is a test on the seriousness of the government to uphold transparency and accountability.

“Para sa atin kasi ito ay test of this government’s seriousness on really making sure that transparency and accountability are the rule of the land lalo na sa harap ng massive corruption scandal sa infrastructure at lalo na sa flood control,” David said.

Based on the report, the Akbayan President stressed that it has allegedly been several years since the tenure of former Ombudsman Samuel Martires started that the SALN of the government officials are supposedly kept. She is hopeful that this will be the time when the public will have access to the SALN of the officials.
