Gladys Reyes Spills Funny Truth About Judy Ann Santos on Set
GLADYS REYES – Veteran actress Gladys Reyes couldn’t help but laugh as she recalled her on-screen experiences with Judy Ann Santos, including one unforgettable slap that still makes her wince.
Gladys Reyes, known as the La Primera Contravida of Philippine showbiz, opened up about her long-time dream role and fond memories with her best friend Judy Ann Santos. Despite decades in the entertainment industry, Gladys admitted that there are still roles she dreams of playing.
In an interview during the Star Magic Spotlight press conference, Gladys revealed her desire to portray a character with complex shades of good and evil. “Parang gusto ko rin ‘yung mala-Gone Girl. So may pagkabida-kontrabida. Ayoko nu’ng totally bida o pinaka-villain so, bida-kontrabida,” she shared.

Gladys Reyes referenced the film Gone Girl, which tells the mysterious story of a wife’s disappearance and the suspicions surrounding her husband. Gladys also mentioned her admiration for projects like Vilma Santos’ Tagos ng Dugo, expressing her interest in revenge-driven stories.
More personally, Gladys revealed another dream role close to her heart — portraying a person with autism. “Because I have a brother who has special needs, si PJ, so, meron akong brother who has autism. So, gusto ko mag-portray also na a person with autism because firsthand kasama ko siya sa bahay… Alam ko kung ano ‘yung mga mannerism niya, paano siya magsalita, paano ‘yung behavior niya,” she said.
Aside from her dream roles, Gladys also reflected on life’s challenges, describing them as the “contrabidas” of real life. “Sometimes you treat that, kontrabida ‘yun eh sa buhay natin… Pero eventually, ipapa-realize sa ’yo, it teaches you a lesson,” she added.

However, the highlight of the conversation came when Gladys fondly recalled her close friendship with Judy Ann Santos — and their unforgettable on-screen slapping scenes. Laughing, Gladys said, “Si Judy Ann Santos mabigat ang kamay nu’n. Mas masakit siyang manampal, mabigat ang kamay nu’n!”
Gladys expressed her ultimate wish to share another intense scene with Judy Ann, this time giving each other another taste of their iconic sampalan moments that became part of Philippine television history.
Fans can soon see Gladys in the upcoming musical family drama The Heart of Music, which hits theaters this December.
